How can this be treated?
For some patients, a simple life change such as investing in compression socks can make all the difference. Other patients decide to undergo venous ablation to reduce the associated appearance and pain.
At Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists, sclerotherapy and laser are used in combination to treat varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is a procedure where a very fine gauge needle is used to inject a solution directly into the veins to cause them to collapse and disappear. Pressure is then applied using bandages to reduce the potential for bruising and swelling, and the patient is asked to wear compression stockings for a couple weeks post-procedure to maximize the results. The NG: Yag laser can be used either before or after Sclerotherapy to specifically target superficial and extremely small veins. This laser targets the pigment in the veins, and through a heating process can cause them to occlude and fade.
