Buttock Augmentation

shutterstock_171719924A buttock augmentation, also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, is a procedure that reshapes and enhances the gluteal area, creating an uplifted, shapely backside.

There are many reasons why a patient may consider undergoing a buttock augmentation. These include enhancing the area to improve an overall outward appearance, creating more pronounced curves, lifting a sagging posterior and correcting the effects of a recent weight loss surgery.

The Board Certified Physicians of Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists are well versed in the Brazilian butt lift, which is performed through autologous fat transfer.

An autologous fat transfer involves taking fat from one area of the body and using it to enhance and reshape another area – in this case, the buttocks. During this procedure, liposuction is performed to remove fatty tissue from body areas with excess amounts, such as the abdomen, hips or thighs. After being processed for fat transfer, the fat is re-injected through small incisions into the buttock region.

During this re-injection process, the fat is grafted in multiple layers to ensure a smooth and uniform deposit is made to reshape the area. When depositing is completed, the incisions are closed with absorbable sutures.

With a Brazilian butt lift, the aftercare is almost as important as the surgery itself. In addition, special compression garments will be worn, usually for a few weeks after the surgery. You will also have to avoid direct pressure to your buttock area for a couple weeks after surgery, and adjust your activities accordingly.

Bruising and swelling of the area is expected and will diminish within a few weeks. Specific aftercare instructions will be discussed during and leading up to the surgery.
