At Marotta Aesthetics & Laser, we've witnessed the benefits of Botox injections for mood and self-confidence first hand. For men and women who have been fretting over their frown lines and crow's feet wrinkles, these treatments provide instant relief by smoothing out creases and creating a more youthful look. As we mentioned previously on this blog, there are other at-home remedies to reduce the appearance of these lines, but nothing beats the euphoria of seeing them disappear completely!
Now, researchers are actually positing that Botox injections can influence state of mind in an even more substantial way. The New York Times recently reported on a study about Botox injections, facial muscles and depression. It has long been believed that smiling can actually help lift a case of the doldrums, but can actively preventing someone from frowning ease feelings of sadness and depression?
"Eric Finzi, a cosmetic dermatologist, and Norman Rosenthal, a professor of psychiatry at Georgetown Medical School, randomly assigned a group of 74 patients with major depression to receive either Botox or saline injections in the forehead muscles whose contraction makes it possible to frown," the source states. "Six weeks after the injection, 52 percent of the subjects who got Botox showed relief from depression."
This isn't the first time that Botox injections have been applied to medical issues that go beyond anti-aging. These injectables have also been used to ease severe underarm sweating and research has shown promise for migraine relief too. Further research is required to find out if Botox injections can supplement current treatments for depression, but one thing is certain: If you're anxious about crow's feet wrinkles, laugh lines and forehead creases, these treatments can be a boon for your appearance and self-confidence!
