According to statistics recently released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), more than 20 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed worldwide in 2014. With more than 2,700board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeon members in 95 countries, the ISAPS was established in 1970 in thehopes of advancing and educating those who study and practice plastic surgery.
The group's most recent statistics have found that Botox remains the most popular cosmetic procedure for both men and women. In terms of surgical procedures, breast augmentation remains the most popular for women, whereas the most popular surgery for men is an eyelid procedure.
The countries that performed the most cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures include:
- United States – 4,064,571
- Brazil – 2,058,505
- Japan – 1,260,351
- South Korea – 980,313
- Mexico – 706,072
The top five surgical and nonsurgical procedures of 2014 were:
- Eyelid Surgery
- Liposuction
- Breast Augmentation
- Fat Grafting
- Rhinoplasty
- Botulinum Toxin
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Hair Removal
- Chemical Peel
- Laser Skin Resurfacing
Women underwent more than 17 million cosmetic procedures, counting in at 86.3 percent of the total for the year. The most common procedures performed on women included breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, fat grafting and abdominoplasty.
Although men underwentfewer surgeries, their numbers in the field continue to surge into 2015. With more than 2.5 million surgeries under their belts, the most common procedures performed on men were eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, liposuction, gynecomastia and fat grafting.
