Laser Treatment

BethpageBestof_2016   VOTED BEST LASER TREATMENT CENTER ON LI!

At Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists in Long Island, we offer laser resurfacing to treat various skin conditions like deep wrinkles, fine wrinkles, scars, acne scarring, skin lesions and to achieve non-surgical skin tightening.

There are two forms of laser resurfacing. In the first form, this treatment creates a uniform injury to your skin, similar to a deeper chemical peel or dermabrasion. In the second form, the laser “drills” tiny holes into deeper layers of your skin. This is known as “fractional resurfacing.”

Like the other resurfacing methods, the laser is effective in treating wrinkles, blotchiness or age spots, as well as scars from acne and other causes. It can be used on the entire face or specific areas. When you visit our Long Island plastic surgery facility, Dr. James Marotta will also evaluate aspects of your skin such as its thickness and texture to determine whether you are a good candidate for laser resurfacing.

Types of laser treatments at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
At Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists, we offer three types of laser treatment. During your initial consultation, Long Island plastic surgeon Dr. Marotta will help you determine the appropriate option to meet your anti-aging needs.

Active FX Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
The Active FX treatment is delivered using the Ultrapulse CO2 Laser. We are proud to offer Ultrapulse CO2 laser resurfacing, which represents the most advanced laser treatment available today. The Ultrapulse laser is six times more powerful than any other CO2 laser available, and this power translates into deeper skin penetration, less pain and greater anti-aging results.  This incredible technology has been featured on 20/20, the Today show and The Doctors. For more information, visit aesthetic.lumenis.com.

Many of our Long Island patients choose the Active FX fractional CO2 laser treatment because it can offer significant improvement on the skin with the least downtime compared to our other laser treatment protocols at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists. Dr. Marotta uses Active FX to treat brown spots, fine lines, tighten pores, slightly tighten skin and to improve skin tone and texture on the face, hands, neck and chest.

This cosmetic treatment can be completely customized to address your unique aesthetic concerns with a minimal recovery time of 4 to 7 days. It can be repeated every six months for even more dramatic results. It is an ideal option for patients who want to diminish the appearance of brown spots and enhance overall skin tone and texture.

What are the benefits of Active FX Fractional CO2 Treatment?
Every Long Island plastic surgery patient is different, but most seek out this treatment to achieve the following:

  • Reduction of sun damaged skin and age spots on the face, hands, shoulders/back chest, and neck
  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Reduction of fine lines e.g. eyes, lipstick lines
  • Slight tightening of skin face, neck and chest
  • Destruction of skin lesions.

What to expect during your Active FX laser treatment at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
The Active FX fractional CO2 laser procedure is done in our Long Island office in one hour or less. Your Long Island cosmetic surgeon will apply topical anesthetic cream to the skin and oral sedatives are administered to ensure your comfort. Most patients describe the pain of the procedure as minimal. Alternatively, the Active FX treatment may be done concurrently with a procedure requiring sedation anesthesia, such as a facelift. Dr. Marotta will then use the Active FX mode to sequentially remove skin with fine lines and age spots.

Total FX Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
Like the Active FX treatment, the Total FX treatment is delivered using the state-of-the-art Ultrapulse CO2 Laser.

The Total FX laser treatment is the medium range laser treatment protocol offered at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists, balancing the patient’s desire for great results with less downtime than fully ablative CO2 skin resurfacing (Max FX). The Total FX laser treatment essentially combines two laser treatments in one. The Active FX mode can be used by your Long Island cosmetic surgeon to treat brown spots, fine lines, tighten pores and improve skin tone and texture. Meanwhile, the Deep FX mode is ideal to address deep wrinkles, folds, to tighten the skin and soften blemishes such as acne scars. Most other fractional CO2 systems only provide superficial benefits, but with Total FX, Dr. Marotta can treat both superficial (e.g. sunspots) and deep (deep wrinkles) problems in your skin in one treatment. The treatment can be completely customized to meet your needs with recovery of 5 to 7 days. The Total FX is best suited to Long Island patients with medium to light skin types who want to also improve deep skin problems like scarring and deep wrinkles but cannot afford the downtime of fully ablative CO2 Laser (Max FX).

What to expect during your Total FX Fractional CO2 Treatment
Like Active FX, the Total FX fractional CO2 laser procedure can be done in the office in one hour or less. Topical anesthetic cream and oral sedatives are also administered to reduce any discomfort. The Total FX treatment can also be performed concurrently with other forms of facial plastic surgery that require sedation anesthesia. Dr. Marotta uses the Deep FX mode to fractionally ablate skin with deep wrinkles, folds and scars, and will then use the Active FX mode to tackle skin with fine lines and age spots.

Max FX CO2 laser resurfacing at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
The Max FX laser treatment protocol is the highest grade laser treatment we offer at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists. The Max FX Laser treatment is the “gold standard” of laser skin resurfacing, as it provides  the most effective non-surgical treatment available for fine and deep wrinkles, brown spots, folds, skin tightening, scars, and pores. The Max FX is fully ablative multipass CO2 laser skin resurfacing, which has been in widespread use by physicians since the 80’s, and is the most studied and proven laser treatment available. Long Island plastic surgeon Dr. Marotta recommends the Max FX treatment for lighter skin types and for patients who want to achieve maximum results. The Max FX can only be used on the face.

What to expect during your Max FX laser treatment at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
The Max FX CO2 laser procedure is done in the office under IV sedation anesthesia. Max FX is frequently done at the same time as other facial rejuvenation procedures e.g. facelift. Dr. Marotta uses the Max FX mode to sequentially ablate skin with deep wrinkles, folds, and scars, fine lines and age spots. Multiple passes are done on the face to correct even deep problems in the skin. Skin lesions may be removed with the laser at the same time.

Recovering from your laser treatment at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists
After your Active FX or Total FX laser treatment, your skin may appear slightly red and swollen immediately following the procedure.  Cool compresses and ointment are applied to soothe the skin, and it will turn brown over the next 24-48 hours and slough in the next 4 to 7 days. Patients typically return to work at this time, and makeup and sunscreen/moisturizer can then be used. The underlying skin will initially appear pinker and healthier, and this coloring completely fades in 7 to 10 days and is easily covered with makeup. Continued improvement in wrinkle correction, skin tightening and texture from the fractional CO2 laser can be seen even up to two years following the procedure.

After a Max FX laser treatment, patients can expect a longer recovery time. The skin may appear red and swollen immediately following the procedure, at which point your Long Island cosmetic surgeon will administer cool compresses and ointment. Patients describe little to no pain with a light burning sensation that ceases within an hour following the procedure. Over the course of the 7 to 10 days, the skin will slough and heal over, and our Long Island patients can generally return to work at this time. The new, healthy skin will appear reddish or pinkish at first. This fades gradually over six weeks to six months but can be concealed with makeup. Continued improvement in wrinkle correction, skin tightening and texture from the CO2 laser can be seen even up to two years following the procedure.
