According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the prevalence of couples undergoing plastic surgery procedures is beginning to rise, with many choosing to make a change together.
With the ever-increasing presence of social media and photo-heavy documentation, many people are more aware of their appearance, especially when compared to their significant other. Although plastic surgery has long been seen as a woman's option, many men are becoming inspired and curious about the range of procedures available, especially those their partner has chosen to have done.
Many couples visit a surgeon with the same issues, to look younger, to feel better about themselves or to simply learn more about their options. As couples are often used to making joint decisions, the choice to have plastic surgery isn't very different. Many experts also believe that having the surgeries done at the same time can be mutually beneficial, with help at home and getting back on their feet together.
Others believe that men choose to undergo procedures to keep up with the appearance of their wife. "Sometimes the man will say, 'Well, I think my wife's looking good, and I don't want to look as old as I look when she looks so young and energetic,'" saidDr. Malcolm Z. Roth, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The types of procedures couples choose to undergo together vary greatly, but are most commonly affected by age. Those in their 20s are more likely to be interested in noninvasive facial changes such as Botox, while those in their 40s-60s choose to undergo more extensive procedures to fight apparent signs of aging.
