More people are turning tonon-surgical facelift procedures to achieve their desired look andimprove their skin's appearance. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Americans spent nearly $5 billion on non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments in 2013 alone. More than 11 million non-invasive cosmetic procedures were completed, marking a 13 percent increaseover previous years. From micro-needling to professional chemical peels, these procedures are giving Americans a new lease on life.
ASAPS' report indicated that the top five non-surgical procedures performed in 2013 were:
- Botulinum Toxin (Botox) – up 15.6 percent over 2012
- Hyaluronic Acid (dermal fillers) – up 31.5 percent
- Hair Removal – up 2 percent
- Microdermabrasion– down 3.8 percent
- Photo Rejuvenation – up 35.3 percent
"A significant increase in the number of both cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures suggests that people are once again investing in their appearance and perhaps have more disposable income to do so. Given the state of the economy and the competitiveness of the job market, we expect to see the numbers for anti-aging procedures continue to increase," saidMichael Edwards, President-Elect of ASAPS.
Non-invasive procedures offer many benefits to those looking for a slight boost in their skin's appearance.Jack Fisher, President of ASAPS, noted the overall increase in procedures doesn't come as a surprise, given thattheavailability of safe, non-surgical optionsensure greater accessibility tothe public at large.
