General Procedure

The Active FX fractional CO2 laser procedure is done in the office in one hour or less. Topical anesthetic cream is applied to the skin and oral sedatives are administered to insure your comfort.

Most patients describe the pain of the procedure as minimal. Alternatively, the Active FX treatment may be done concurrently with a procedure requiring sedation anesthesia, such as a facelift. Dr. Marotta will then use the Active FX mode to sequentially, fractionally ablate skin with fine lines and age spots.

Recovery

The skin may appear slightly red and swollen immediately following the procedure with flesh colored dots.

Cool compreses and ointment are applied to soothe the skin. The skin will turn brown over 24-48 hours and slough over the next 4-7 days. Make-up and sunscreen/moisturizer can then be used. Patients generally return to work in 4 to 7 days.The underlying skin will appear pinker and healthier. This pink appearance completely fades in 7 to 10 days and easily covered with make-up. Continued improvement in wrinkle correction, skin tightening and texture from the fractional CO2 laser can be seen even up to two years following the procedure.
