You’ve likely seen the term facial balancing scrolling through your feed. It’s usually accompanied by a dramatic before-and-after video where someone’s entire profile changes in fifteen seconds. Social media makes it look like magic. In reality, it’s a process that takes time, care, and sometimes a few weeks of looking worse than you did before.
At Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists, we look at the face as many cohesive structures. Facial balancing is simply the process of adjusting the relationships between your facial features so they fit together. We want to give your nose, chin, and cheeks the balance to bring everything together in a way that looks correct for your face.
What Is Facial Balancing?
Facial balancing is a customized set of surgical or non-surgical treatments that corrects asymmetry and proportion. The internet often frames this as you simply needing more filler. That’s only half the story. True facial balancing for one person might mean adding volume with dermal fillers, but for someone else, it might mean reducing a dorsal hump on the nose or placing a chin implant. The goal is a harmonious balance where no single feature dominates. When we achieve facial harmony, the eye doesn’t get stuck on a weak chin or a heavy brow. It sees the overall appearance of the face as one cohesive picture.
Facial Balancing Benefits
The main benefit of having balanced facial features is that you stop looking for your bad side. When we create facial symmetry, you look consistent from every angle.
Facial Balancing Candidates
You probably already know what bothers you. Most of our patients have spent time analyzing their facial features. You are likely a good candidate for a facial balancing treatment if:
Note from Dr. Marotta: When I say you should have realistic expectations, I mean just that. Treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, are not magic. Things are going to take time to settle; some bruising or incisions may be involved, and you're certainly not going to look like a completely different person. If you're not prepared to be down for a few days, or live with the knowledge of hidden incisions, plastic surgery, or facial treatments, may not be the best option for you. I can give you any information you may need during your consultation to make sure that this is a good path for you and your goals.
What Facial Balancing Can Address
We're not in the business of glancing over your face and throwing out whatever treatments or surgeries sound good that day. Your treatment plan depends entirely on your anatomy. Dr. Marotta handles the surgical options, while our aesthetic team manages fillers, Botox, and skin treatments.
Surgical & Non-Surgical
A weak chin throws off the entire facial proportion. If the chin is recessed, the nose looks bigger.
Surgical & Non-Surgical
High cheeks are a hallmark of a youthful appearance. Aging causes fat pads to slide down, creating nasolabial folds.
Surgical & Non-Surgical
The nose is the center of the face. If it's crooked or too large, facial symmetry is impossible. We approach this in two ways, depending on your anatomy:
Non-Surgical
Lips should follow specific facial proportions (usually, the bottom lip is slightly fuller than the top). We use fillers to correct asymmetry or add hydration. We aren't trying to make them massive; we are trying to make them balanced with the rest of the lower face to enhance your aesthetics.
Non-Surgical
Structure matters, but so does the wrapper. If skin elasticity is poor, the facial contours won’t look sharp.
Prep & Consultation
We start with a full face assessment. We don’t just look at the one area you're troubled by. We look at the whole picture. Remember, it's all about balance.
We use VECTRA® 3D Imaging to take a 3D image of your face and manipulate it on the screen. We show you exactly what a chin implant would do for your profile or how fillers would change your cheek projection. It allows us to agree on a balanced look before we ever touch you to make sure that we meet your unique needs.
Facial Balancing Procedure
Surgical: If we are performing implants or rhinoplasty, you're in our accredited surgical suite. It’s a medical procedure. Safety is the priority. You're either asleep or very calm and numb using anesthesia, depending on the procedure, and Dr. Marotta does his best to hide any incisions in your hairline, under the chin, or in the natural creases of your skin.
Non-Surgical: For a facial balancing session with fillers, it’s an office visit with Dr. Marotta or one or our skilled aesthetic providers. We apply numbing cream for comfort, and the injections themselves take about 30 minutes. We focus on adding volume precisely where the facial structure lacks support to enhance the balanced effect.
Recovery & Aftercare
Surgical: Expect downtime. You may have a compression garment or sutures for about a week. Swelling is normal. It takes time for the final shape to settle and look balanced.
Non-Surgical: There is minimal downtime. You might have bruising or swelling for a few days. You can go back to most daily activities immediately. We advise against heavy exercise for 24 hours to let the product settle and maintain the balanced result.
Facial Balancing Results
Plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine are both about the long game.
The goal is natural-looking results. You should look like you, just more balanced. We want to enhance your features without erasing them.
Facial Balancing Cost
Facial balancing cost varies wildly because the term covers so much. A few syringes of dermal fillers will cost significantly less than a surgical rhinoplasty. We don’t hide prices. We give you a quote for your specific treatment plan. We also offer financing. If you are investing in your face to achieve a balanced look, you shouldn’t have to cut corners on quality.

Facial balancing focuses on proportion, adding volume to a chin or cheeks. A facelift focuses on tightening loose skin and muscle. Often, we combine them for total rejuvenation.
It depends on the volume loss. A subtle adjustment might take two syringes. A full facial balancing treatment involving cheeks, jawline, and chin often requires more to see a real difference and enhance the balanced effect.
We use numbing cream and lidocaine. Most patients feel pressure, not pain. Surgical options are performed under anesthesia, so you feel nothing.
Yes. No face is perfectly symmetrical, but we can make the left and right sides look much more even. This creates a more harmonious balance that the eye perceives as beautiful.
It depends on what treatment you choose, but most non-surgical options for facial balancing take less than an hour. It's efficient and effective for those wanting to enhance their appearance.
Yes and no. You will still look like yourself, but you'll look balanced. We enhance your natural features without erasing them. The goal is a natural-looking appearance that fits your identity.
