Our Long Island providers can help you remove decades of sun and age damage.
Dermabrasion is a skin resurfacing procedure that has been used since the 1940s to dramatically improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles, skin pigmentation, pock marks, acne scars, and traumatic scars. Following your procedure, new skin is formed that has a higher collagen content than the previous damaged layer and is free of the lesions, pigment, and poor tone that characterizes aged skin. The skin also becomes thicker, thus filling in areas of wrinkling or depression.
As time goes on, you’ll notice that the benefit of dermabrasion becomes more and more apparent as the body lays down new collagen to fill in wrinkles and scars. We often recommend dermabrasion to Long Island patients who want to address the following:
Additional improvement can even last up to a year following this anti-aging procedure.
Dermabrasion can be done alone under a local anesthetic at our Long Island office or in the operating room under sedation with other procedures. Dr. Marotta performs dermabrasion using a rotating diamond burr to sharply and precisely remove layers of damaged skin and stimulate collagen growth. After a dermabrasion treatment, you may feel a stinging sensation in the targeted areas. This pain is easily controlled with oral pain medication. As the top layers of skin have been removed, the skin underneath will appear raw.
In seven to ten days, new skin covers the recently treated areas. This may appear slightly pink at first, but the color fades within four to six weeks and can easily be concealed with makeup.
Dr. Marotta applies a protective gel dressing immediately following your procedure to help form new healthier skin. The dressing is changed on the first post-operative visit with your Long Island aesthetic provider and removed two days after the procedure.

Dermabrasion offers more substantial results than microdermabrasion as it causes more controlled damage to the skin. However, as a more aggressive treatment, dermabrasion requires local or sedation anesthesia and a longer recovery. Dermabrasion also takes longer to perform than microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is performed by our aestheticians at Marotta Med Spa and dermabrasion is a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Marotta.
Diamond microdermabrasion is an advanced alternative to crystal microdermabrasion. Diamond microdermabrasion offers enhanced safety and precision compared to crystal dermabrasion. However, crystal microdermabrasion has a higher risk of complications than diamond microdermabrasion due to its irregular shape. Furthermore, particles can break off the crystal tip and stay on the skin or, worse, project into your eyes. At Marotta Med Spa we only perform diamond microdermabrasion.
We are able to capture face, breast, and body images in ultra-high resolution 3D, to show our patients the exciting possibilities of their simulated aesthetic procedures.
