"It was so important to me to do another Medical Mission. My intention was to do a mission years ago but then COVID hit and well, you know the story. As soon as travel restrictions eased, I signed up to join HUGS (Help Us Give Smiles) in a mission to Antigua, Guatemala. We are leaving this Saturday, June 18th to spend a week doing Microtia surgery for children born with congenital ear defects (missing an ear). We will also do some other kinds of reconstructive surgeries for patients in need. Patient's will come from all over the country to receive our care which will be given free of charge. I learned of HUGS early in my training when I traveled to Quito, Ecuador on a mission. It was founded by my former fellowship director, Dr. Vito Quatela. It is a great organization, and I am honored and delighted to be able to volunteer my time and expertise. The people in Guatemala are in such great need; 25% of the entire population lives below the international poverty line. For me it is important to give back in whatever way I can, and I can think of no better way than using my medical training and donating. Doing these sorts of things brings me back to my why, my core purpose and the reason I became a physician in the first place; to heal and benefit others. It always feels good to ... Do Good."
We are able to capture face, breast, and body images in ultra-high resolution 3D, to show our patients the exciting possibilities of their simulated aesthetic procedures.
