If you suffer from noticeable fat beneath your chin, or a double chin, Kybella can help you achieve your most desired appearance, without the need for an invasive procedure.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved Kybella, an injectable solution for the dreaded below-the-chin fat that plagues many Americans. Known as submental area fat, this tissue underneath the chin can be hard to remove, even with a proper diet and exercise.
Identical to the deoxycholic acid that is naturally produced in the body, this injection enables the body to absorb fat more easily. When injected into the tissue, Kybella destroys the cell membrane, eliminating fat cells.
Patients may receive up to 50 injections in a single treatment, with up to six single treatments administered at least one month apart from one another. The treatment takes about 30 minutes the first time, and each time afterward can last anywhere between 15 and 20 minutes. A numbing cream or ice may be applied before or after the injections to diminish any pain that may be felt.
As with any type of injection, an inflammatory period may take place after being administered. Some swelling and tenderness is also common for a few days afterward, but should diminish within a few days. As the procedure is not invasive, many patients report continuing their usual routines right after treatment.
