A strong jaw line is one of the most coveted facial attributes among men and women alike, creating an authoritative profile that conveys power and even fertility.
If you’ve always been insecure about a weak chin, or are concerned about the effects of sagging skin along your jaw, you may be an ideal candidate for chin implant at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists on Long Island. A receding chin or microgenia (literally “small-chin”) is most often an inherited trait present from birth.
In cases of a small chin, the simplest treatment involves chin augmentation with a chin implant in a procedure known as Mentoplasty.
Chin augmentation can help create or restore ideal facial proportion and balance, for example, by making the nose appear smaller and the jaw larger. As a dual-board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Marotta is adept at playing upon these proportions to create the most dramatic enhancements in facial beauty overall. He frequently performs mentoplasty in combination with septorhinoplasty for this very reason. Pre-jowel implants are frequently grouped into chin implants, but the primary goal of pre-jowl implants is very different. As a person ages, they lose bone density all over the body, including both sides of the chin. It is this loss that leads the jaw line to appear weakened and enhances the prominence of the sagging skin known as jowls.
At Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists, we provide a simple procedure to address this issue: a pre-jowl implant. This fills in the areas of lost bone, lessens jowling and ultimately restores a stronger, youthful contour to the jaw. This operation is a wonderful complement to a facelift and together they can alleviate even the worst jowling. Long Island plastic surgeon Dr. Marotta also offers a combination implant that both augments the chin and fills in bone loss for patients who have a naturally weak chin and have started to notice the formation of jowls.
Every patient at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists is unique, but many have sought out a Long Island plastic surgeon to achieve the following:
Whether you are having a chin implant or a pre-jowl implant, the procedure is identical. Alone, the procedure takes between 30 minutes to one hour to perform, though these surgeries are often combined with other facial treatments for optimal aesthetic results. During your surgery, a small incision is made below the chin and hidden in a natural crease. A deep pocket is created and the implant is placed. Fine suturing is used to close the incision. After your surgery, we recommend only light activity and head of bed elevation.
Your Long Island plastic surgeon will apply tapes around your chin that must remain in place for five days to decrease swelling. Following this period, Dr. Marotta will remove the chin tapes and your sutures. Directly after your procedure, you may be slightly swollen and bruised, but this resolves rapidly and complications from this plastic surgery are relatively rare. The implant we use at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists is made from material that has been used since the 1950s with an excellent safety profile. Chin implants are generally accepted well into the surrounding tissue, lasts a lifetime and is placed deep enough so all you will ever feel or see is a more attractive and confident you.
We are able to capture face, breast, and body images in ultra-high resolution 3D, to show our patients the exciting possibilities of their simulated aesthetic procedures.
