Why do people have plastic surgery?

People have plastic surgery for a number of reasons. For those thinking about having this type ofsurgery, it's comforting to know why others do it. Often the more they know, the less anxiety they're likely to have.

1. Boost self esteem
According to a study published in Clinical Psychological Science, most people who have plastic surgery suddenly have higher self-esteem, experience less anxiety and feel healthier. To conduct the research, researchers compared 544 first-time patients with 264 people who were thinking about the surgery but dropped out and 1000 others who have never been interested in the procedure.

"People change part of their appearance for a number of reasons."

2. Change appearance
People change part of their appearance for a number of reasons, but the underlying motive is because they're not happy with a certain feature. For example, they may have a defect or abnormality caused by genes or environmental factors, or have been injured in an accident.

3. Reverse aging
Cosmetic surgery does a great job of helping people dip into the Fountain of Youth and reverse the signs of aging. A certified doctor can perform facial rejuvenation procedures, which may consist of endoscopic browlifts and MidFace lifts, facelifts and mini facelifts.

4. Protect against sun damage
While people need to protect their skin year round, they must be especially careful to do so when the sun is at its strongest from the spring to fall. Sun damage can cause everything from wrinkles to cancer. Unfortunately, few people seem to keep this mind. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, which cited researchfrom the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 14 percent of men and 30 percent of women regularly use sunscreen on their face and exposed skin.
