The natural aging process causes subtle changes to the face, slowly transforming it from a youthful “V” shape with fullness across the cheeks and a narrow, defined jawline to an inverted “V” with sunken eyes and cheeks that blend into a bulky jawline of loose and sagging skin. At Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists, we offer a V-Lift procedure designed to restore the beautiful “V” shape of your face using nonsurgical, minimally invasive injections of facial fillers. Patients may choose to have a V-Lift because it offers a youthful, refreshed look without surgery, downtime or recovery time.
As a board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. James Marotta has the expertise, experience and artistry necessary to customize a V-Lift procedure specifically for you, based on the physical characteristics of your face as well as your aesthetic goals. He will assess your facial features, listen to your concerns and recommend an optimal plan to help you achieve a more youthful, radiant appearance.
What is a V-Lift?
A V-Lift is similar to a liquid facelift in that it utilizes dermal filler injections to rejuvenate the face, paying particular attention to restoring the “V” shape of the face by using fillers in different locations to artfully and strategically recreate a more youthful contour. However, Dr. Marotta also uses the fat transfer technique to offer even more lasting results – something that no other surgeon does.
During a V-Lift procedure, facial fillers are injected under the skin – focusing specifically on strategic areas in the temples, cheeks, and along the jawline – to add volume, improve hydration and plump the skin, while also stimulating collagen production. Dermal fillers are made from a variety of substances, including hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-l-lactic acid and polymethylmethacrylate. Each of these fillers has specific characteristics that make one better than the other to treat different concerns. Dr. Marotta will determine which type of filler will offer optimal results for your unique needs, as well as if you would benefit from fat transfer as part of your treatment.
Ideal Candidates for a V-Lift
Healthy women and men who want to turn back the clock but aren’t quite ready to have surgery are excellent candidates for a V-Lift. This procedure is often preferred by patients under the age of 50 who can still benefit from nonsurgical techniques. In addition, because the V-Lift is nonsurgical, it can be the perfect option for patients with health conditions that may limit their access to traditional surgical techniques requiring anesthesia, incisions, stitches and a more extensive recovery period.
The V-Lift procedure is not recommended for people who have severe laxity in their jowls, deep grooves on their face or drooping skin that would require a surgical neck lift or facelift for optimal results.
The V-Lift Procedure
A V-Lift begins with the application of a topical numbing anesthetic to the face to ease any potential discomfort you may feel during the procedure. Dr. Marotta will map out your face, determining precisely where the filler or fat injections will be placed. After your face is cleaned and the topical anesthetic sits for approximately 15 minutes, he will begin the injections. If he is utilizing fat transfer as part of your V-Lift, the procedure may be a bit different, as fat needs to be harvested from your body, which requires liposuction and general anesthesia. The fat is then carefully processed and made ready for injection into your face.
Fillers and fat are then placed into areas of the face that are hollowed or sunken and need added volume. A thin needle delivers a precise amount of filler under the skin. Then Dr. Marotta gently massages the injection site, evaluates the results and either adds additional dermal filler to the spot or moves on to the next injection. The V-Lift procedure takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, after which time you are free to return to work or your regular activities. Again, if you are undergoing fat transfer as part of your procedure, it will take longer, but you will know what to expect prior to coming in, as Dr. Marotta will have covered the process during your consultation.
Recovery and Downtime After a V-Lift
Facial filler injections can cause minor swelling, redness, bruising, itching and pinpoint bleeding at each injection site. Some patients experience no side effects and return to work or normal activities immediately. Other patients may need a day or two for these side effects to subside. You can take over-the-counter pain medication to ease any discomfort you may experience. If fat transfer is a part of your treatment, your recovery may include a bit of downtime while the site of the fat removal heals, but the areas in your face where the fat is injected will heal just as the filler sites do. Choosing an experienced cosmetic surgeon is the best way to minimize adverse side effects and ensure optimal results, so you can rest assured that you have made the best decision by choosing Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists to perform your V-Lift.
While the side effects will most likely be minor, remember to be extra gentle to the skin on your face in the days following your V-Lift. Don’t scrub, massage or rub your face, especially if you have fat transfer, as you want it to settle in evenly and smoothly. If you choose to wear makeup, apply it gently. Avoid itching or picking at your face. Also avoid activities that involve extreme heat or cold, such as sunbathing, saunas, hot tubs, hot wax or winter sports that expose your face to the elements. Dr. Marotta will provide you with post-treatment instructions, so it is important that you follow them to the letter.
You will notice immediate results following your V-Lift, with hollows and lines filled and your skin looking smooth and youthful. Your skin’s appearance will continue to improve over time, as the body produces collagen in a healing response to the injections. You can expect to see noticeable enhancements to your face following your V-Lift, including:
- Diminished fine lines and wrinkles
- Deep grooves and folds appear softer and smoother
- Scars are filled
- Volume to the cheeks is restored
- Sunken areas below the eyes look refreshed
- Dark circles under the eyes are eliminated
- Lips are plumped
- The jawline is defined
- Jowls are eliminated
You can expect the gorgeous results of your V-Lift to last up to two years, and if fat transfer is used, even longer. To help maximize your results, follow our recommended skin care regimen, avoid sun exposure, wear sunscreen, don’t smoke, and minimize alcohol consumption. Keep in mind that your metabolism, facial characteristics and lifestyle play a role in determining how long your fillers will last. Fat transfer is considered permanent, but weight loss and natural aging can also affect the longevity of your results.
