Uncertified plastic surgery leads to British woman's deathMarotta Plastic Surgery Specialists

Understanding the difference between skin rejuvenation and resurfacing is important for selecting the right cosmetic procedure.

Understand the difference between skin resurfacing and skin rejuvenation

While the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, skin rejuvenation and resurfacing are actually two very different areas of cosmetic surgery. When considering getting a procedure done to improve skin appearance and bring a youthful glow back to your skin it is important to select the right option for your desired look.

Skin rejuvenation can include anything from a cosmetic process to a skin cream. However, resurfacing is actually a form of rejuvenation. It refers to one of a handful of cosmetic procedures that a board certified cosmetic surgeonhas to perform. These include:

  • Chemical peels – A professional chemical peel removes the top layers of skin to reveal the fresh, younger skin beneath, bringing a healthy glow back to your appearance. Peels can eliminate skin blemishes and light wrinkles with swift recovery time.
  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photorejuvenation – IPL Photorejuvenation uses multiple wavelengths of light to eliminate signs of aging, with faster results and shorter recovery time than traditional laser resurfacing.
  • Laser resurfacing – Using a single wavelength of light, laser resurfacing provides more controlled resurfacing than a chemical peel, allowing for the depth to be changed based on the intensity of the laser. This allows a plastic surgeon to perform a deeper resurfacing.
  • Microdermabrasion – Using a series of needles, a cosmetic surgeon invigorates the skin, increasing collagen growth to boost skin tone and fullness.
  • Ultherapy –Using ultrasound technology, Ultherapy is a skin rejuvenation treatment, not resurfacing, which helps to tighten skin.
